Planning a family photo session can feel a little overwhelming, but I’m here to make the process as smooth and fun as possible! Here are some simple tips to help you prepare and ensure we capture beautiful, authentic moments of your family.

1. Outfits: Coordinate, Don’t Match

Gone are the days of everyone wearing the same white shirt and jeans. Instead, aim for coordinating colors and complementary tones. Pick a color palette you love — something you’d be happy to see hanging on your walls. Neutrals with pops of soft colors or rich, earthy tones work beautifully. Layers, textures, and subtle patterns can also add visual interest. Most importantly, make sure everyone feels comfortable and confident in what they’re wearing.

2. Location: Think About Convenience

When choosing a location, consider the needs of your family, especially if you have little ones. If you have babies in strollers, let’s pick a spot with smooth paths and easy access. For toddlers who prefer to run around (or not walk far at all), a location with nearby spots to explore works best. If you’re unsure, I’m happy to suggest family-friendly spots that suit your vibe!

3. Keep It Light and Fun

Please, don’t stress about getting your kids to smile perfectly. The best photos often come from candid moments! Bring a favorite toy or a little treat for motivation (ice cream bribes work wonders). Let me engage with them — I have a few tricks up my sleeve to get those genuine giggles. Your job? Focus on yourself and enjoy the time with your family.

4. Music: Set the Mood

If the location allows, I’ll bring a speaker to play some music during the session. Feel free to make a mini playlist of your kids’ favorite songs — it’s amazing how a little music can lighten the mood and encourage natural smiles and movement.

5. Preparing for an At-Home Session

If we’re taking photos in your home, take a few minutes to declutter the areas where we’ll be shooting. We don’t need a perfectly spotless house — just clear spaces free of distractions. Natural light is key, so we’ll focus on rooms with great windows.

6. Trust the Process

Not every kid will instantly warm up to the camera — and that’s okay! Sometimes, I spend the first few minutes simply hanging out and getting them comfortable. The goal is to create a relaxed environment where their personalities shine through. The less pressure, the better the photos. Trust me — we’ll capture some magical moments.

Above all, have fun with it. These sessions are about celebrating your family exactly as you are — joyful chaos and all. I can’t wait to create something beautiful with you!
